Biomechanics

Theatrical Biomechanics is a technical training system for actors, training the actor's body, mind, and movement for stage work.

Through working from the bottom-up method and the seven principles (look below), the participants achieve greater and more precise body controll, which will improve the presence, durability, stamina, expressivity, coordination, tempo - rythm of the performer.
Otkas - refusal.
Otkas is the preparatory movement that precedes the intended movement. Reaching back or taking a swing before the throw. This is where the idea or intention of the movement is born.

Posyl - sending.
Posyl is the realization of the intended movement.

Stoika - stance.
Stoika is the dynamic fixation at the end of a movement phrase with the perspective of a new Otkas.

Tormoz - the brake.
Tormos enhances the precision and musicality of a movement. It is often used at the end of a movement sequence.

Rakurs - foreshortening (from the french word raccourci)
Rakurs means the perspective shortening. The actor offers the audience a various range of their body perspectives.

Kontrapunkt - counterpoint
While making a scenic movement, the actor includes a countermovement to generate a bigger impact of their initial movement and form.

Grupirovka - the grouping
It is a physical concentration, often around the point of command (solar plexus) and in connection with the Otkas, which creates a dramatic tension in the body and in space.
